During a job, a client gifted Don an antique rack from a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. The
rack could hold various-sized bottles next to one another and store wood cases and boxes. The rack's versatility gave Don an epiphany. From this original design, the Cellarium horizontal wine rack was born.
Don straightened the center lines and raised the shelf height to fit a standard Bordeaux case. The result was a rack that could handle any size bottle, case or box. This updated design provided many new features that added to the rack's versatility.
Display Row or Pillow Rail
Everybody wants a display row or “pillow rail” to show off their prized bottles. This is usually at eye level around the room. In custom wine cellars, individual racks become part of a system that racks an entire room. The pillow rail features an LED light to highlight your special labels. We angle the pillow rails at 15 degrees so the cork is still engaged in the wine and won’t dry out. If you prefer not to display your bottles, you can stack them on top of each other without affecting the cork to achieve more storage capacity.
Pillow
The vertical “pillow” rests on the rails to display an individual bottle at an angle. You can display a single bottle anywhere throughout the cellar. Stack the remaining 11 bottles from a case next to the display to see at a glance what the case contains. Pillows offer flexibility and let you have fun with your displays.
Bottle Bed
The “bottle bed” is a piece of wood made of the same material as the rack with a groove in the middle. The bed holds large-format bottles, such as magnums or double magnums.
Insertable Shelf
A solid rectangle of wood in the same material and finish as the rack. Placed in the rack, it converts into a fixed shelf to store things like books, preserves or ornaments. An insertable shelf increases the display flexibility. You can show off your wine collection along with other treasured items.
