The core concept of our wine cellars is the CELLARIUM style of racking, a horizontal, library style shelf as opposed to the ubiquitous “cubby hole” type so commonly seen. The inspiration for it came from an antique wine rack found in the basement of a Manhattan restaurant that served as a speakeasy in the 1920’s. We were fortunate to acquire it and after placing bottles in it, quickly realized how flexible it was for various format sizes, giving new meaning to the phrase, “size doesn’t matter.” Even though the bottle rails were random in nature, you could still place a half bottle (split), a 750 ml, a Mag and a double Mag right next to one another. We refined it from there and continue to discover its ability to store virtually any size bottle or case.
If you had no other type of racking, this is all you would need; however, some of our cellars still utilize diamond bins, individual cubicles, etc., becoming a hybrid, if you will. But again, the core of our designs embrace the CELLARIUM concept, keeping you much more engaged in your collection and permitting the creation of an infinite variety of storage vignettes and combinations. A wine collection isn’t a static thing, it is constantly evolving and CELLARIUM is the only wine racking system available that adapts to your collection.
